Schooner Estates expands with memory care home
Maine’s memory care community continues to grow with the completion of Schooner Estates’ Memory Care Home. Designed by Gawron Turgeon Architects, P.C. (GTA), this 48,000 square foot building is situated on eight acres of Schooner Estates’ Auburn, Maine campus.
This state-of-the-art facility features 66 units organized into three, 22-bed neighborhoods. This community-style design facilitates and enhances daily life for people living with memory impairment. Special considerations include a circadian lighting system to help reinforce natural light/dark signals, which in turn regulates the body’s internal functions performed throughout the day. Secured, outdoor garden spaces and activities areas include built-in hearing loop systems that connect to individuals’ hearing aids, improving ease of listening in these environments. In addition, custom apartment door colors and finishes aid in creating an engaging, positive environment, empowering individuals to live as independently as possible.
Schooner Estates’ Memory Care Home broke ground in late October 2018 and was completed in 2020. GTA’s project partners include Sandy River Company, Schooner Estates, Lincoln Haney Engineers, Sebago Technics, Bennett Engineering and Landry French Construction.
